Central Elementary School

Ablemarle, North Carolina

Status: Completed 2002

Central Elementary school was originally built in the city of Albemarle in 1924. In 1936, an additional school building was built on the campus. In 2002, Onxley Architecture provided a design to expand, renovate and connect the two existing buildings, as well as to build a new covered drop off. This work was all done with the successful intent to preserve the sort of collegiate, Gothic style of the existing buildings. This project was the recipient of an award of merit for “Best Endangered Property Rescue Effort” in 2010, as well as a preservation award.
