4415 Monroe Road
Charlotte, North Carolina
The 1924 stone building is a uniquely luxurious example of bungalow-style architecture for turn-of-the-century, within ten minutes' drive to Uptown Charlotte. The original building was a single-family residence. The building has heart pine floors, three fireplaces and solid stone exterior walls. All the stone on the interior and exterior of the building is North Carolina/Charlotte fieldstone.
The building had fallen into serious disrepair and had to be completely refurbished. Onxley Architecture has restored and renovated the building, adding an additional 1,400 square feet. The building has been restored to its original grandeur and ambiance, using “arts and crafts” details such as restoring abandoned doors and hardware from a 1924 church building that the architect was currently renovating.
Divided into three separate office condos, each has its own large conference room, handicap-accessible restroom and snack area. The first level is graced with exposed stone walls in most rooms. The second level’s large windows allow for sunny offices with ample views. The third level has a conference room with a cathedral ceiling and all other rooms have high ceilings. The building has been re-wired for the latest telephone and computer technology and utilizes energy-efficient cooling, heating and lighting. This stone building will go into the new millennium allowing the opportunity for small businesses to grow and flourish in a comfortable setting that provides a warm domestic ambience without sacrificing an upscale, professional business environment.
