Reeder House

Matthews, North Carolina

Status: Completed 1993

The Reeder House is a contemporary interpretation of the aisled hall house, a British & Welsh typology, derived from 15th century Welsh vernacular. This home transforms the Welsh typology, which was traditionally a large open hall for gathering, by integrating ample private dwelling spaces connected to the grand hall. Gathering in the open hall is foraged around a traditional stone hearth at the central core of the living space.
